Why People Unsubscribe from Email Lists
You’ve worked hard to build your email list and put a lot of time and effort into setting up a marketing campaign…. Then you start to see your unsubscribe numbers climbing, what’s wrong? A recent study revealed the most common reasons people unsubscribe from your list:
- 54% say emails come to frequently
- 49% state content is boring or repetitive
- 47% say the volume of total emails is overwhelming
- 25% consider the email content was irrelevant from the beginning
Let’s review some tips on how to keep your subscribers engaged, interested, and looking forward to your next email:
Don’t overwhelm subscribers with too many emails in too short a period of time. Think through what you want to accomplish with your email campaigns and the audience you are appealing to; new prospects may require more touches for a shorter period of time, and well established clients may only need periodic updates or reminders over a longer time span.
Don’t send out irrelevant content. Make sure the message is on target for that specific audience. Make sure the content is fresh and timely. Don’t let a time crunch or lack of attention on your part seduce you into simply recycling old articles!
Do use emails to create your unique brand with your subscriber list. This is an excellent opportunity to provide valuable insights and content that will increase the recipient’s inclination to open your email and never think of unsubscribing.
Do use a long term email marketing plan that incorporates an automated emailing system that assists you in delivering a consistent, timely message over a specific period of time. Not only can you determine the message, the timing and the length of time, but take the opportunity to develop a branding relationship with your email campaigns.
While you can’t control the overall volume of email subscribers receive, you can increase your open ratios by providing relevant, timely, on target content and build your brand as a valued resource!

Mirrored Emails….What’s That?
When the Tech Team came out with this feature, I was like…Uh-Oh… What is it and how do I explain it? Turns out it’s Very Simple and VERY COOL! This new feature allows you to store all of your email correspondence inside AgencyIQ AND in another email address. So, for example, you receive an email into AgencyIQ, it will also show up in your Outlook or other email address. Many of you have requested this feature and now its functioning inside your AgencyIQ account. Follow these steps to activate this feature in AgencyIQ:
*Go to “My Settings” in the top right hand corner
*Click on the “Email Configuration” Tab
*Type in your “Mirrored Email Address” in the 2nd Box
That’s it! Now, anything you do inside AgencyIQ or your other email address server will be “mirrored” in both accounts. If you’re on the move or don’t have time to sign into AgencyIQ, you can still see all of your correspondence inside your other email address. This also provides accurate tracking of ALL of your email correspondence with clients, no matter if it orignates from AgencyIQ or your other email address!’

Improved Email Deliverability in 2012

Email Marketing NO-No’s
In past articles we have covered various aspects of email marketing from a “big-picture” viewpoint. Now let’s get down to some “nut and bolts” about some email basics that will help increase your open ratios! The list below shows words to avoid using in your email messages:
Spam filters are programmed to search for and reject emails with these “key” words in the body of your text. It’s important to remember that the use of 1 or 2 or these words will not automatically reject your email and send it to the “Junk” email file. But, use of more than that will certainly trigger a rigorous scrubbing of your message by spam filters. Be creative and use alternative words to convey the same message and use this as an opportunity to set yourself apart from the competition when approaching a potential client.
So, get creative, dust off the cover of that old Thesaurus and get your message to your Clients!
